What is Natural Learning?

When children learn to talk, they do so by hearing and imitating those around them talk. When they learn to walk, they do so by watching and trying and falling and starting over again.

As a parent, you never got out a textbook and read to them a lesson on how to talk and walk. You didn’t explain the science behind either action or why it was important that they learn to do them.

It just came naturally.

Really, kids are designed to learn from the moment they emerge into this big world. If we pay attention, there’s a lot we can learn by simply observing them.

Lessons in Natural Learning

What do we learn from how our kids developed their skills of talking and walking? There are some key components that are essential in learning processes. Let’s think of them as the three I’s—immersion, imitation, and indefatigability.

Immersion.

Imitation.

Indefatigability. the quality of being determined to do or achieve something; firmness of purpose; persisting tirelessly
